The US State Department commented for the first time on the 'Easter truce' in Ukraine.

The US State Department emphasized the need to continue the ceasefire on the front after the completion of the announced 'Easter truce' by Russia, which is set to end at midnight on April 21. The State Department highlighted the necessity to stop death and destruction and to end the war.

The American side expressed support for the idea of a complete ceasefire and endorsed the proposal to prolong the truce after the Easter celebrations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also called for an extension of the truce after Easter.

Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov has already stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not issued an order to extend the 'Easter truce' beyond April 21. The announced ceasefire will last only until midnight.

The Ukrainian side proposed to extend the ceasefire for 30 days, but there has been no response from Russia yet.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that there has been no response from Moscow regarding Ukraine's proposal to extend the ceasefire for 30 days. Russia's actions after midnight and during the following week will determine its true attitude towards US peace efforts and the proposal for a complete ceasefire for 30 days.
