The film's success is attributed to its popularity among young people, particularly due to TikTok. Some theaters reported remarkable audience reactions, including screams and other provocations during screenings.
In just four weeks of worldwide release, the Minecraft movie grossed $816 million, with $436.6 million coming from outside the U.S.
The film became especially popular in foreign markets:
- United Kingdom - $67.1 million;
- Germany - $33.7 million;
- Australia - $31.8 million;
- Mexico - $28.4 million.
The Minecraft film is an adventure movie inspired by the popular video game of the same name. Filming took place in New Zealand from January to April 2024.
The film was directed by Jared and Jerusha Hess, with leading roles played by Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Emma Myers. The movie features elements familiar to fans of the game: biomes, monsters, and building blocks.
The American adventure film 'Minecraft: The Movie' grossed $157 million in the U.S. and Canada in its opening weekend after the premiere, setting a record for 2025.
