Travelers to the EU will face problems due to the new biometric system – Financial Times.

EU countries are not yet ready to implement the new biometric border control system due to the risk of causing chaos for travelers, Financial Times reports. However, France and Germany demand to review the plan to introduce this system as the computer system will not be able to cope with the innovations. The system in question is the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will require foreign nationals, regardless of visa status, to undergo immigration control and enter their biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial photographs. Representatives of airlines and airports warn of massive disruptions at the border and increased entry processing Time for passengers. France, Germany, and the Netherlands, which have the highest passenger traffic, have not yet completed national-level testing of the system. Some countries are considering piloting the system only in certain areas. The German Ministry of the Interior claims that the main problem is the central computer system eu-LISA, which lacks the necessary stability and functionality. The UK has also expressed concern about queues at our channel ports and the Eurostar station in London. Other aviation industry representatives have also expressed concern about the implementation of the new system without its full testing. The European Commission warns that the implementation of the new border control system is a complex operation that may be accompanied by delays.
Let us recall that the new Entry/Exit System (EES) in the Schengen zone will be launched on November 10.
