EU Defense: Kubilius Calls for Creation of 'European Space Shield'.

The European Union Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, proposes to create a 'European Space Shield' to coordinate defensive efforts in the space domain.
During his speech at the conference, Kubilius noted that he wants to initiate communication with member states and space commands to discuss issues related to raising awareness about the European space domain and monitoring threats, including military ones. He believes this is the foundation for creating a 'European Space Shield' that will unite defensive efforts in space.
Kubilius emphasized that countries are increasingly competing for dominance in space, citing reasons such as Russia and China deciding to collaborate on joint projects, like a joint lunar nuclear power plant. However, Europe cannot afford to let authoritarian states control space and must maintain its leadership.
Kubilius also expressed concerns regarding entrepreneurs like Elon Musk, who have space ambitions. He acknowledges that these entrepreneurs are making exciting progress in space, but structural issues in the EU may hinder its development. To avoid stagnation, member states must promote the development of the European space sector and support European enterprises.
