It was previously reported that at least 130 foreign delegations are expected to arrive for the funeral of Pope Francis on April 26 in the Vatican, including 50 presidents and 10 monarchs. Among the participants will be U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Argentine leader Javier Milei, Prince William of Wales, King Felipe VI of Spain, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other world leaders.
According to AFP, ahead of the arrival of high-ranking guests, heightened security measures are being implemented in Rome and the Vatican - a no-fly zone has been imposed over the Italian capital, and sniper units are deployed on rooftops along Via della Conciliazione, which leads to St. Peter's Square.
It should be noted that Pope Francis passed away on Monday morning at the age of 88. The cause of death was reported as a stroke against a backdrop of several chronic diseases. The Pope's death was preceded by bilateral pneumonia, which was diagnosed in February. During his hospital stay, Francis suffered four respiratory crises. According to doctors, his life was in danger twice. Pope Francis was discharged from the hospital on March 23.
According to the Pope's last will, he will be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome rather than in the Vatican, where many of his predecessors rest. His tomb will be simple and without special adornments, as per his wishes.
