Ukraine is actively seeking support from Western countries and the global South to prevent terrorist attacks by the Russian Federation on critical energy infrastructure.
Vyacheslav Potapenko, head of the Center for Domestic Political Studies at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, disclosed this information in a program on the FREEДОМ TV channel.
According to him, possible attacks by Russian long-range systems could affect the electricity supply from nuclear power plants to power transmission networks.
"Unfortunately, this situation is even more serious because if the Russians actually intended to attack nuclear infrastructure sites, it would cause global outrage. Besides, these sites were built with resilience to shelling and attacks in mind back in the USSR times. However, the infrastructure around the four nuclear power plants, which are the backbone of Ukraine's energy today, can be easily destroyed. This will be particularly problematic in winter when solar energy will be insufficient," Potapenko noted.
The head of the Center for Domestic Political Studies emphasized Ukraine's appeal to the global community on these issues.
"I also want to note the statement by Andriy Yermak, in which he addressed not only Western countries but also the countries of the global South. This shows that Ukraine is persistently reaching out to the countries of the global community, with which diplomatic ties have been established over the past year, to prevent potential terrorist attacks by the Russian Federation on energy facilities in Ukraine," Potapenko noted.
