Ukraine has exceeded the export limit for corn to the EU, reports the global analytical information provider for financial and commodity markets Barva Invest.
The data from the European Commission has not yet been updated.
'Soon, headlines like 'EU will ban corn imports from Ukraine' are expected,' the company forecasts.
Although the EU has the option to apply the 'emergency brake' mechanism designed for such situations, in practice this will likely be limited to a reduced export limit for 2025 while maintaining a zero tariff rate, analysts note.
'It seems that the EU has deliberately made the conditions for applying the 'emergency brake' and other mechanisms as vague as possible to avoid pressure from local anti-Ukrainian lobbyists. However, the risk of negative consequences for Ukraine still remains,' the company noted.
