13 people died as a result of an explosion in West Java

On Monday, a tragedy occurred in the West Java region of Indonesia, resulting in the death of 13 people. Among the deceased were nine civilians and four military personnel. The explosion occurred during the disposal of military ammunition, which is typically used to destroy outdated arsenals. Local residents often gather at this site after disposal to salvage scrap metal, which may explain the high number of civilian casualties.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. According to a statement from a military representative, the investigation aims to determine the circumstances of the explosion and how civilians ended up at the ammunition disposal site. This is the second similar incident in the country in the past year with serious consequences for the people of Indonesia.

The situation is becoming even more complicated as the governor of West Java province has proposed making male sterilization a mandatory condition for receiving social assistance. This step is associated with the policy of combating poverty in the region, believing that birth control through vasectomy may help address the issues. To encourage men to undergo the procedure, the authorities proposed a financial reward of 500,000 rupiah (about $30).
