The first cannabis-based medicines have been registered in Ukraine
Ukrainian pharmacies will soon receive new cannabis-based medicines. The first registered products are oral drops from a Spanish brand. According to forecasts, they may appear in pharmacies as early as the beginning of 2025, reports the charity fund 'Patients of Ukraine'.
In addition to oral drops, the Ministry of Health has also approved the use of solid capsules, dental pastes, and gels based on medical cannabis. The indications for treating with these drugs include chronic pain, Parkinson's disease, nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy, Tourette syndrome, drug-resistant epilepsy, seizures in childhood, and anorexia caused by HIV.
To obtain these medicines, patients must have an electronic prescription from a doctor, which will be dispensed at the pharmacy in their name. It is worth noting that the pharmacies producing these medicines must have three licenses – for retail trade, manufacturing of medicines, and circulating narcotic substances.
According to the Ministry of Health, about 6 million patients in Ukraine require cannabis-based medical products.
