EU citizens do not consider the USA a main ally? Survey data.

EU citizens feel greater skepticism towards the USA
According to research by the Bertelsmann Stiftung foundation, citizens of the European Union are increasingly skeptical about partnership with the United States. They believe that the EU should have an independent foreign policy and reduce ties with Washington. Specifically, about half of the respondents (49%) no longer consider the USA their main ally and express a greater willingness to cooperate with other countries, such as the United Kingdom (13%) and China (10%).
The research also found that residents of Belgium showed the greatest skepticism towards the USA: only 43% of respondents labeled them as their main military partner. At the same Time, the highest level of support for America was observed in Poland (65%). Regarding cooperation with China, the greatest willingness was shown in Italy, where this figure reached 13%.
The study also highlighted a typical profile of Europeans who are skeptical towards the USA. Usually, this is young people aged 18 to 35, with a low level of education, leftist political views, and often living in rural areas. On the other hand, proponents of the USA are mainly people over 55 years old, with higher education, center-right political beliefs, and living in cities.
Overall, apart from Poland, the majority of Europeans (63%) support the idea of reducing cooperation with the USA and moving towards a more independent course. This is especially true for foreign policy, where 73% of respondents support a more active role for the EU in international affairs.
It is worth noting that positive attitudes among Americans towards Donald Trump, the elected president of the USA, have increased over the last month.
